The Ganta-Tappita Highway has deteriorated to an extremely poor condition. As one of the nation’s main strategic linkages, it represents a serious bottleneck on development. The route from Ganta to Tappita is relatively direct, intercepting Saclapea and a number of rural towns. However, it has few straight sections because of the undulating terrain and the need to cross the numerous stream lines at advantageous points. The road was never properly engineered initially, but developed as an earth track along the naturally best alignment.
