Richflood International Ltd (Richflood) was appointed by BUA Cement PLC (BUA) in November 2021 to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed 4th line Cement Production Expansion and 70MW Gas-fired Power Plant Project at Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto State in Nigeria and, in doing so, assess impacts associated with all project phases being construction, operation and decommissioning phases.

PRODUCTION EXPANSION AND 70MW GAS FIRED POWER PLANT PROJECT 

 

Project Location; The project is Located at AT Wamakko L.G.A. Sokoto State.

 

About the Project

This document presents the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed BUA Cement Sokoto 4th Line Cement production expansion and associated 70 megawatts (MW) Gas-fired Power Plant Project in Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State, Nigeria. The project aims at increasing the cement production capacity of BUA Cement Sokoto Plant from 5million MTPA, by adding a new 3million MTPA Portland Cement clinker Plant and a 70MW Power Plant, to provide the needed power for the non-kiln operations of the Cement Plant.

 

Project Components (Power Plant )

The project’s basis of design includes:

  • Engine hall

  • Generator

  •  Exhaust stake

  • Starting air unit

  •  Radiator

  • Switchgear

  •  Cables

  •  Step-up transformer

  •  Black starting unit

  •  LPFO tanks

  •  Firewater tanks

  •  Fire pump skid

  •  Fire hydrants

  •  Roof, side ventilators and air inlet

  • Steel structure building

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Raw material crushing Unit: The crushing department comprises one roller screen and hammer crusher for crushing LG and HG limestone.

  • Raw material storage and pre-blending Unit: This is a longitudinal storage provided with one stacker to stack LG and HG limestone and two bridge reclaimers to reclaim limestone from the storage.

  • Raw material grinding Unit: This comprises ball mill technology which includes a vertical cement mill, a roller press and a mill with a high-efficiency classifier for grinding initial feed materials. The initial feed materials at the raw material grinding unit are LG and HG limestone as well as shale for adjusting the feeding.

  • Raw meal homogenising silo unit Comprises concrete silo for raw meal storage and homogenisation.

  • Kiln Unit: Comprises a rotary Kiln for the burning of the raw meal into clinker. Rotary Kiln- Length 65m and 5m diameter.

  • Cement Grinding Plant: This comprises the use of a cement ball mill grinding circuit divided into silos and includes high fineness and dry grinding method. The ball mill equipment includes a vertical cement mill, a roller press and a ball mill.

  • Clinker store unit: Comprises concrete silo for storage of cool clinker for homogenisation.

  • Packing Plant Unit: Comprises 4 rotary packers each packing 120 tph with bags.
